Why are past convictions showing on my police check?

Previous convictions may appear on your police check for a number of reasons, including:

• Your check is for working with children or vulnerable people, where spent conviction laws may not apply.
• You have repeated or similar offences.
• The police agency determined the information should be disclosed based on the purpose of your check (such as your role or industry).
• In Western Australia, convictions are not automatically spent and may require an application to the Magistrates Court — see here for more information on WA spent convictions.

I think something has been disclosed incorrectly. What can I do?

If you believe information has been incorrectly disclosed, we can lodge a dispute with the relevant police agency on your behalf. Email support@checked.com.au with:

• Your Check ID/Reference Number
• Details of the offence you believe should not have been disclosed and why

The relevant police agency will review your request and determine whether the information should have appeared on your police check.
