How long does it take to process a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC)?

Your application goes through two stages once you have completed and submitted your application:

Step 1: Checked Review

We review your application to make sure everything is correct. If we need any additional information, we'll contact you before submitting it to the Government.

  • Express Processing: Submitted within 1 business hour (Mon–Fri, 9:00am–5:30pm AEST).
  • Standard Processing: Usually submitted within 1–3 business days.

You'll receive an email once your application has been submitted.

Step 2: Government Review

The Government then reviews your application. Many checks are completed within minutes, while around 30% are referred for manual review. If this happens, results are typically returned within 1–15 business days.
