How does a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) differ from an Australian Federal Police (AFP) Check?

Whilst both checks provide information from all Police agencies within Australia, an Australian Federal Police Check (AFP) differs from a National Police Check primarily based on the requirements of who has asked for your check. In short:

Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) is commonly used for:

  • Employment within Australia
  • Volunteering roles, within Australia
  • Student placement
  • Insurance purposes
  • Membership purposes

An Australian Federal Police (AFP) Check is commonly used for:

  • International Employment Applications
  • International and Spousal/Marriage Visa Applications
  • Australian Immigration and Citizenship
  • If Applicants are Currently Residing/Living Outside Australia

If you require an AFP Check, you can complete your application here.

Note: If you are unsure which check type you need we recommend speaking with your employer/who has requested the check to make sure you meet their requirements.
