What should my purpose be if I’m a student applying for a police check?

If you’re a student applying for a police check for placement or enrolment purposes, you can complete a volunteer police check.


The purpose of your police check it must include the following details: 

  • Course of study 
  • Purpose of check (Course enrolment or placement)
  • Name of your educational institution 

An example of how this will be filled out on the application form can be found below: 



Note: If you’re completing a volunteer student police check for Flinders University, your police check purpose must be filled out as listed below as Flinders University will only accept police checks with this purpose:

List of Educational Institution's that require an AFP check (National Police Certificate) for Placements

The following Universities have confirmed they require an AFP check and will NOT accept a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check

If your Educational Institution is not listed above, please ensure you double check your placement requirements to ensure you are applying for the correct check.


Note: if your placement requirements list code 37 - Care, Instruction or Supervision of Children/Care of Disabled Persons/Aged Care Staff/Volunteers you will require an AFP check.
