What should I put as my purpose if I'm applying for a police check as a student?

Students applying for a police check for placement or enrolment can complete a Volunteer Check.

Your check purpose can include:

  • Course of study e.g Individual Support Placement
  • Educational institution or Placement Organisation e.g University of Wollongong / Bupa Aged Care

Note: Students at Flinders University must use the purpose "University Placement at Health/Aged Care Sector", as this is the only wording accepted by the university.

Educational Institution's that require an AFP check (National Police Certificate) for Placements

The following institutions require an AFP Check and will not accept a NCCHC:

  • Australian College of Nursing
  • Charles Darwin University
  • CQUniversity Australia
  • Griffith University
  • James Cook University
  • Queensland University of Technology

If your institution is not listed, check your placement requirements to confirm which police check is required.

Note: If your placement requires Code 37 – Care, Instruction or Supervision of Children, Care of Disabled Persons, or Aged Care Staff/Volunteers, you will need an AFP Check.
