What if I don’t have the required documents?
To meet the Government's ID requirements, you need:
- 1x commencement document
- 1x primary document
- 2x secondary documents
- 1x Biometric Link
If you’re missing documents, you can save your application and obtain them, then resume later to upload.
I don’t have a commencement document
You can:
- Retrieve your Australian visa/VEVO (for international applicants)
- Apply for an Australian passport (expired passports accepted up to 3 years)
- Request a copy of your Australian Citizenship Certificate
- Apply for a Birth Certificate via your state/territory registry
I don’t have a primary document
You can:
- Use an unused commencement document
- Renew your driver licence (including digital licences)
- Renew your international passport
- Apply for a government photo ID card
I don’t have a secondary document
You can use an authorised referee form, completed and signed by a Justice of the Peace or authorised referee.
I don’t have a change of name document
You can:
- A Change of Name Certificate, or
- A Marriage Certificate (via your state/territory registry)
